Toombs Family Updates

Toombs Family Updates
This page has been created with the intent of keeping everyone apprised of any big events occurring within the family, whether those events be positive or negative (we're praying for very few negative!), this would be our family news board.
It can be tough to get the old-fashioned "phone tree" going, so hopefully this updated information system will work for everyone.
This will only be as good as the information we put into it, so PLEASE contribute!  Please send your news as it happens, so we can share with the family - we can truly bring ourselves much closer together than we've ever been,  by being in touch with each other's lives.  The strength of a family requires each member to give their all... so please do your part, and participate in the communication of Toombs Family News.

Unfortunately, we do not have good news to start off with.  I hope that much better news will soon follow...

  • It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart, that I’m reaching out to all of you now with news of Charles’ passing this evening. The past few weeks have been very difficult for the family, watching his health rapidly deteriorate. He was very uncomfortable and miserable during this time, so hopefully some comfort can be found in knowing that he is now at peace. Gloria, Ray, Chris, Jana, Charles’ brothers and sisters – all of his immediate family is much in need of your prayers, as we all attempt to cope with this tremendous loss. Please do keep the family in your thoughts and prayers. We will send out information for his service and such, within the next day or so.

  • Please see the following request from Marc Stachurski, Charles' son-in-law. This was emailed to the family distro, but we also wanted to post it online, for easy reference:
  • 12/7/11 - Hello All... First, thank you everyone for your Thoughts and prayers. I know the family needs them. I would like to ask a favor of each of you. I have been asked to minister at the service for Charles in St Louis. While I still know that I am not worthy of this honor, I would like to incorporate stories of Charles' life, and how amazing of a brother, father, uncle, and friend he has been to all of us. My favor is to ask you to send me some of the stories telling how he lived his life with each of you. These stories will help us to celebrate what a wonderful influence he has been on each of our lives. Thank you again, in advance, for sharing each of your tales describing those special moments. And please know that I pray for the Lord's grace and peace for all of us, and Charles, as we work thru this time. May the lord bless each and everyone. Marc (marc.stachurski@sbcglobal.net)

  • 12/7/11: Update on Charles - Unfortunately, his condition has not improved, and swelling in his legs has worsened. He has been weak, and requires support/assistance for most activities. Doctors indicate the test results do not show any conditions that they are able to treat toward improved health. The doctors believe his best option at this time, is to be placed in hospice care. For now, the family has taken Charles home, and Jana is staying there to provide him with 24-hour nursing care. He is considered to be in "severe heart failure," and hospice will be visiting him at home two-three days a week to check on his condition. The doctors say Charles' organs are beginning to shut down, and there is little that can be done, other than make him as comfortable as possible. He is not able to take nutrition or hydration, and has become very weak. Uncle Charles is 72 years old, and has been much of a patriarch-like figure to our family (on Jim Toombs' side), for many years... Our hearts are sick with sadness, as we helplessly watch this situation deteriorate. Please keep Charles and his family in your prayers - his wife Gloria, and children Ray, Chris, and Jana. We will continue to provide updates here, as they come available.

  • 11/1/11 - Much beloved Charlene Toombs Cantrell passed away on 10/31/2011.  She had been ill for some time, and is now at peace.  Our thoughts and prayers are with her children Pam and Bill, as well as her grandchildren.  We all have our own fond memories of Charlene, and will miss her dearly.

  • 11/23/11 - Charles Toombs has been struggling with heart problems, and is currently in the hospital in St. Luis. His heart had stopped, but emergency responders were able to get it going again. They will run various tests to determine whether there is any blockage, among other things.  We all know that Charles is a bit, ahem, strong-willed, and expect that he will always put up a good fight =^) .  Stubbornness can provide some strength, but please keep him and his family in your prayers.  We'll continue to provide updates here on the Family board.
