Toombs Family Reunion

welcome

Here you will find news and updates, regarding the next Toombs Family Reunion (June 2012). As details become available, we'll post them here, so everyone will have access to the most up-to-date news.

Toombs Family Crest/Coat of Arms

We'd like to have the Toombs family crest/coat of arms printed on koozies that could be used during our upcoming reunion.  The crest on the tee shirts from our 1995 reunion is somewhat different than images found online - does anyone remember who was responsible for having those shirts made, or where that image came from for the family crest?  We want to make sure we use whatever is the correct crest for the Toombs family, so we can have it printed on the koozies.
Here's a picture of the tee shirt, for those of you who do not have one:

As mentioned earlier in this post, online examples of the Toombs family crest vary some from what is dipicted on the tee.  I believe multiple crests turned up online, but with little variance between each other - I would imagine that different Toombs families may have slight differences in their crests, which may explain why the one on our tee is a little different.  Below is one of the online images we found, which turns up the most:

Any information that any of you may be able to provide on the family crest/coat of arms, would be very helpful, and GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks,

 Mishell and Heather

Our reunion is only a little more than FOUR short months away (June 29-30)
We've checked with the lodge, and a dismal six reservations have been made (at least, at that point).  With such little remaining, it's concerning to see so few rooms reserved for our large family.  Please, don't put it off - make sure you have space set at the lodge, so you don't have to commute to town (if there are even rooms available in town)!

Keeping in mind that we can't possibly please everyone, we did want to consider opinions and feedback from our rather diverse (and opinionated) family, so that we can have a reunion everyone enjoys.
To collect some information, we've compiled a questionnaire - it will be emailed to everyone within the next day or so, and is easy to fill in and submit.  There's also a general comment section in the questionnaire, please feel free to include any items that weren't included the form.  Of course, you are always welcome to reach out to us with any questions or comments you may have.

From Chris Toombs:
For all those who would like to have a copy of the Houston Chronicle obituary, it will appear in tomorrow's Houston Chronicle (12/12/11), and be posted online for 30 days.
They have already provided a digital copy of the obituary, and you can download and save it by save it by clicking here.

Details on Charles' Services
**In lieu of flowers, please feel free to provide donations in support of burial and service expenses**
Many businesses and professional acquaintances have indicated they will provide flowers, so there should be more than enough for each of the services.  Donations should be sent directly to Gloria Toombs, at the home address shown below.

The first service will be held on Monday 12/12/11, at the Gerber Chapel Funeral Home.  Viewing will begin at 12:00pm, with the service starting at 1:00pm.  The address is 23 W Lockwood Ave, Webster Groves MO, 63119 (phone is 314.968.2000).  Please join the family in gathering afterwards, at Charles and Gloria's home.  The home address is 660 Waterford Ridge Dr., Manchester MO 63021.

The family will leave St. Louis on Tuesday, headed toward Houston, for interment with military honors.  That service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday 12/16/11, at the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.  The address is 6900 Lawndale St, Houston TX 77023 (phone is 713.928.5141).  A family gathering is planned afterward - details on the location will be provided, as soon as they are finalized.

Please let us know, if there are any questions.

--Thanks

In Memory of Charles Toombs

This evening my Dad, Charles Toombs passed away after a long battle with congestive heart failure. He was blessed to have been in the comfort of his own home under the care of my Mom and my sister. He was 72 years old, was married to my Mom for 50 years, and a retiree of Anheuser Busch. He was a life long fan of the Cardinals and the Texas Longhorns. He was also a Navy vet and got to go home on December 7th, Pearl Harbor Day. Anchors Away Dad, and Hook 'Em Horns!

Update

Reunion Updates

Can you believe there's little more than a year left, before our next reunion? Well, as we all know, time goes by fast :) . Be sure to get your rooms reserved at the lodge as soon as you can - time can really get away from us, and before you know it, next summer will be here! Rooms can go quickly, and it truly makes a difference staying there - it's convenient, and is more conducive to impromptu gatherings.
Also, keep an eye out for more frequent updates from us - now that we're approaching the year countdown mark, we'll be finalizing details and keeping everyone posted on any changes.
In the next month or so, we'll be sending out a survey, which will give everyone an opportunity to provide some input on their favorite activities, suggestions for new items, etc. Our family reunions are for ALL of us, and we want to make sure everyone enjoys the event!

As always, take care, and let us know if you have any questions!

Info on Next Reunion

When we attempted to reserve rooms for the planned family reunion in 2011, very much to our surprise, there were very few rooms available. Alternate locations have been considered, but it was feared moving the reunion location could cause hardship to too many. Our only choice is to push it out one year, to June of 2012. We've already set aside 40 rooms, so there should be plenty of availability for anyone wanting to stay at the lodge (details, below). We've also reserved the family/conference room for both Friday and Saturday (6/29 and 6/30), and the family pavilion at the lake for all day Saturday (6/30).

We were all looking forward to getting together next summer, and I know many will be disappointed in the delay to 2012. It was our understanding that rooms could be reserved no more than a year in advance - which is correct, for individuals. However, for groups, the lodge begins taking reservations two years in advance. When we began contacting them in May, there were less than ten rooms remaining available for any summer month in 2011. We hope the additional year will only provide  more opportunity for planning fun activities, and for everyone to save up for the travel.

In the near future, we’ll be sending out additional info with planned activities for the reunion.  We may do some polls to get opinions on various activities and dinners, so there would be opportunity for input and suggestions.  Also, we will continue to collect contact info, so please provide any email addresses that should be added.
